Center for the Study of Southern Culture

This is for Now. This is for Ever. This is for the Center for the Study of Southern Culture.

Your gifts to the Center for the Study of Southern Culture benefit teaching, publications, and outreach at the first interdisciplinary research center dedicated to the American South. Three partner institutes – the Southern Documentary Project, the Southern Foodways Alliance, and Living Blues magazine – advance the Center’s mission.

The Southern Documentary Project, SouthDocs for short, produces works of documentary storytelling from the perspective of studying the American South. SouthDocs teaches classes in Southern Studies, provides internships and multimedia workshops, and helps to drive the Center’s MFA in Documentary Expression program.

The Southern Foodways Alliance documents, studies, and explores the diverse food cultures of the changing American South. SFA’s work sets a welcome table where all may consider our history and our future in a spirit of respect and reconciliation. A member-supported organization based at the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture, SFA collects oral histories, produces films and podcasts, publishes great writing, sponsors scholarships, mentors students, and stages events that serve as progressive and inclusive catalysts for the greater South.

Living Blues magazine, America’s first blues publication, aims to document and preserve the African American blues tradition. Living Blues is published bimonthly by the Center for the Study of Southern Culture.

Support for our academic programs, publications, and institutes help the Center establish UM as a worldwide model for interdisciplinary regional studies programs.

Your gift goes further on Giving Day! Several members of the UM community are challenging you to make a difference in the lives of Southern Studies students. Maximize your impact by answering these challenges and helping us unlock critical resources. Your gift - no matter the size - makes a difference.

It’s easy to give! Ole Miss Giving Day accepts Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, and all major credit cards.
