School of Education
Together, we can invest in the School of Education

The School of Education (SOE) at the University of Mississippi is a leader in producing teachers, counselors and education trailblazers.

Today, you can invest in scholarships, programming and faculty to help transform students’ lives and school communities. Help us as we advance educational equity and excellence to serve Mississippi and beyond.

Examples of excellence include:

  • A new scholarship focused on education equity is being community-funded by School of Education alumni and friends. The Education Equity Undergraduate Scholarship, when endowed, will provide perpetual support for students who are committed to racial equity in the classroom, add to the diversity of our SOE and intend to teach in Mississippi public schools after graduation.
  • Scholarship support for SOE students at the undergraduate and graduate levels have grown over the past academic year. New opportunities supporting students who pursue degrees in teacher education, special education, higher education and educational leadership, as well as additional opportunities for students with financial need, will be awarded for the fall semester.
  • Amid a growing demand for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practitioners and teachers in Mississippi, the School of Education launched a master’s special education degree focusing on ABA. Support from Renasant Bank, the Hosemann Family Autism Foundation, Advance Mississippi 2020 and the Luetta Ford Scholarship for Special Education in honor of Dr. James Mann provided critical scholarship funds for the inaugural cohort.
  • Education majors use Mursion technology that delivers customized virtual reality training for real-world professional challenges. A video recording allows students and faculty to see a synchronized split-screen recording of the session for deeper evaluation and reflection. Through Mursion, UM students practice teaching in front of avatars. In addition, the School of Education is considered a leader in this field and facilitates use of this technology to seven other universities..
  • In its 32nd year, the Mississippi Teacher Corps trains and places outstanding college graduates in teaching positions in the state’s critical-needs schools. Among benefits, participants receive full scholarships to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching degree while also serving as teachers. A record 79% of the most recent graduates chose to remain teaching in Mississippi after their two-year commitment was fulfilled.
  • The Department of Higher Education recently launched two programs: The University’s first fully online doctoral degree program (Ed.D.) and one of the nation’s first undergraduate minors in higher education. Ph.D. students also may study with an emphasis in gender studies as part of a partnership with the Sarah Isom Center or Women and Gender Studies.
  • The eighth cohort of the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program is enrolled in the SOE. Funded by the Robert M. Hearin Support Foundation, METP recruits top-performing students to teach in Mississippi public schools and provides up to four years of tuition, housing, living expenses, and study-abroad experiences. Program applications were up 16% over last year. In tandem with support from the Hearin Foundation, private support has enabled the University to permanently endow METP and offer additional scholarships.

On Giving Day, we prove that the University of Mississippi family is better together. Let’s all work as one to support the School of Education.

Please celebrate Giving Day by making a gift! Thank you!
